OAK CREEK COMMUNITY PARK - Improvement Project

Community Survey

The City of Irvine is developing a plan to improve services and facilities within the 11.8-acre Oak Creek Community Park. The City has a license agreement with Southern California Edison (SCE) to utilize approximately 8 acres of a public utility easement, located adjacent to the park, which can be used to expand park amenities and add new features.

The City is actively seeking public input on park amenities that could include additional flex field space, possible basketball and sand volleyball courts, additional parking, and a dog park. The City is considering the location of additional amenities and possible relocation of existing ones, but all amenities that currently exist at Oak Creek Community Park — such as the soccer fields, playground area, picnic shelter, and restroom facilities – will remain.

Community feedback from this survey will inform the future design of Oak Creek Community Park, and help identify additional amenities that may benefit park users.

PART ONE - Preliminary Concept

In this set of questions, you will review a concept plan designed to solicit community feedback on general park areas. It is important to note that no existing amenities at Oak Creek Community Park are removed from the park as part of this plan.

The preliminary concept focuses on finding locations for major amentities of the park; once these larger area footprints are confirmed, additional plans would be developed to find locations for potential smaller amenities such as basketball or volleyball courts.

Oak Creek Park - Preliminary Concept

The preliminary concept relocates one soccer field to the opposite end of the park along Valley Oak Drive, which is currently used as a flex field. The relocation will require that several existing parking spaces be eliminated along the south end of the field to accommodate the size of the soccer field.

The flex field is expanded and relocated to the adjacent SCE easement between two new parking lots that will provide both replacement and additional parking for the park. This concept does not remove existing amenities. In this scenario, a 2.37-acre dog park is also added to Oak Creek Community Park, with access from Sand Canyon Avenue. All other elements of the park remain the same.

PART TWO - Potential Park Amenities

In addition to the larger park amenities considered in Part One of this survey, the City is considering additional recreational amenities to complement the existing play and picnic areas in the center of the park. There are two grass open spaces that provide the opportunity to consider additional features desired by the community as shown below.

The following list provides a range of potential amenities and features that may be included as part of this project:

  • Additional picnic area with barbecue
  • Adult exercise equipment
  • Basketball court
  • Expanded play area
  • Maintain existing open space
  • Pickleball court
  • Sand volleyball court
